With his signature acerbic wit and hilarious voice, twenty-something author, blogger, and entrepreneur Shane Burcaw is back with an essay collection about living a full life in a body that many people perceive as a tragedy. From anecdotes about first introductions where people patted him on the head instead of shaking his hand, to stories of passersby mistaking his able-bodied girlfriend for a nurse, Shane tackles awkward situations and assumptions with humor and grace. On the surface, these essays are about day-to-day life as a wheelchair user with a degenerative disease, but they are actually about family, love, and coming of age
We read book 1 for MHS Book Club last year. Everyone really like it and decided that they wanted to read book 2 this year. I love that the cover image is making fun of the rude assumptions that people make about them almost like they are sticking their middle finger up at the world. Rebels! I'm also very interested to read more about Shane's life with a girlfriend. Are they intimate? If so, how is that possible? How did they meet? Do they live together? Who does take care of him? I have SO many questions that I'm hoping the book answers.
If you haven't read book 1, Laughing at My Nightmare, you MUST read that one as soon as possible. #mustread
Have you read either of these books? If so, what did you think of them?
